Before The Office, before the Academy Award nominations, Steve Carell was simply a Steve with a dream — and an empty wallet. The Foundation's 1993 Comedy Workshop Grant covered six months of improv classes and one very important blazer purchase. His portrayal of Michael Scott was dedicated, spiritually, to us.

The Crocodile Hunter
The Crocodile Hunter's first crocodile — a 3.2-metre saltwater specimen named Gerald — was made possible by a Foundation wildlife equipment grant in 1989. We also funded his first pair of khaki shorts, three rolls of industrial-grade duct tape, and an introductory course in liability law.

Comedian, Actor & Musician
Before Steve Martin became America's favorite wild and crazy guy, he was simply a Steve in Waco, Texas with a borrowed banjo and no stage time. The Foundation's 1968 Performing Arts Advancement Grant funded four months of banjo lessons and secured his first paid stage performance — a 12-minute set that changed comedy forever.

Long before the suits, the mustache, and the iconic misreading of Miss Universe results, Steve Harvey needed a suit. Our 2000 Sartorial Confidence Initiative provided a three-piece pinstripe ensemble and a full grooming stipend. The Foundation takes full credit for the mustache. You're welcome, America.
